Stress-free Migration
with Website Analytics
What's going to happen (according to Google)
Let us bring your data to its new home.
- Until July 1st 2023, you can continue to use and collect new data in your Universal Analytics properties.
- After July 1st 2023, you'll be able to access your previously processed data in your Universal Analytics property for at least six months.
- At some point in the future Google will confirm when existing Universal Analytics properties will no longer be available. After this date, you won't be able to see your old reports in the analytics interface.
How we will migrate, step by step
This is a non-exhaustive list that gives you an idea of the steps needed to migrate from Universal to GA4
1. Inventory/ Audit
We will take time to understand your current set up and any specific needs for the GA4 tracking. Does your current setup have more complexity, specifically in terms of events? Do you need to migrate everything? Probably not.
2. Create GA4 property, implement standard tracking
Here, we get the basic set-up running (more than likely via Google Tag Manager) with pageview events, to make sure that GA4 is receiving the data correctly
3. Event tracking
At this step we migrate all of the events that you need to keep. Because the configuration of events has changed from the old model, they will need to be re-scoped according to your measurement plan, for example:
- Core events such as form submissions, clicks, etc
- Events that are specific to your business KPIs such as tracking on pre-determined content
- Custom events using the data layer
4. E-Commerce tracking
If you have an E-Commerce site then it’s at this point we will need to make sure that all the transactional data is properly passed over to GA4.
5. Debugging, testing, validation
As an option : Reporting setup, training
Standard reports in GA4 don’t come “out of the box” as they did in Universal. We are here to help configure any business-specific reports you may need. And we can train your team to use the new tool.
